Delivering life-saving heart procedures to children in developing countries
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Dr. Robert Michler, Founder and Chairman, is a world renowned heart surgeon and 30 year resident of Greenwich, CT. He started the organization in 1994 after he was invited by a colleague to bring a small team of pediatric heart specialists to Guatemala to help save the lives of a few children born with heart defects.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Heart Care International provides life-saving heart procedures to children in developing countries AND provides medical training and expertise to help develop the skills of the host-country medical team so that they will be able to provide the highest calibre heart care services to their own population. In addition, Heart Care International brings not only a 100% volunteer team of expert medical professionals to each country, but also brings all of the medical equipment, supplies and medicines required to take care of the patients in their country of origin.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Based in Greenwich, CT, however, the organization currently provides services in three developing countries - El Salvador, Dominican Republic and Peru. Current plans are to expand services to Mexico in 2015.
What type of payments do you accept?
This is a non-profit organization and delivers services to children in developing countries, FREE of charge. To support the organization's mission trips, we are dependent on the generosity of individual and corporate donations. 100% tax deductible donations are accepted online through the website...www.heartcareintl.org and by check via US postal service.
Which areas do you service?
Pediatric heart care.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
The organization is based in Greenwich, CT and has an active Executive Board of Directors that provides the leadership and strategic direction for the organization both short and long term. Day to day operations are handled by Amy Weinstein.
What are your hours of operation?
Weekdays 9 am - 5 pm...however, we are accessible via email 24/7
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
The greatest compliments come from the children who Heart Care International has saved. One such child received life-saving heart surgery when she was 6 years old. Currently 25 years old, she recently wrote to us: "God has always amazed me in my life and he has given me the privilege of a second chance to live because of Heart Care International's medical team who as acted as instruments of God to perform a miracle to save my life."
