Natural History Museum, Environmental Education Center, Bird Sanctuary, Nature Store
Established in 1914 by Connecticut Audubon Society founder Mabel Osgood Wright, the CAS Birdcraft Museum offers year-round environmental education programs for children, families and adults, seasonal bird-banding demonstrations, children's birthday parties, summer camp programs, and special events. The Nature Store offers wonderful gifts for tots, children, teens and adults plus a wide selection for avid birders and our backyard buddies, including unique bird and nature-themed gifts, cards, jewelry, books, toys, games and more. The 6-acre Birdcraft Sanctuary is a National Historic Landmark, representing the first privately owned bird sanctuary in the U.S.; today it is used as a stopover point by some 120 different bird species annually during migration. Birdcraft Museum contains mounted exhibits and dioramas depicting Connecticut's birdlife and natural environment as it existed at the turn of the 20th century (1900s).
